As Storm Callum wreaked its havoc in the West Country and Wales all we experienced some blowy weather, squally showers, some unseasonably warm temperatures and some very strange early morning light. I took a walk across the blustery field in front of home to see yet another Cumbrian Mountain Express pass on the WCML.

66566, 03.25 Garston-London Gateway (4L52), Ashton Road bridge
66566 leads the 4L52 03.52 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner between Roade and Ashton on the WCML. It was a blustery morning, with the tail end of Storm Callum creating some very odd lighting conditions.

66536, 04.25 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M88), Ashton Road bridge
66 536 leads the 04.25 Felixstowe North to Lawley Street 4M88 Freightliner on the southern WCML between Ashton and Roade. I was pushing the camera's ISO a little as it was a pretty dismal morning with a very strange warm red light on the back of Storm Callum that had passed the previous night causing some issues in the west of the country.

390039, VT 07.23 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G05), Ashton Road bridge
Virgin's 390039 looks smart in its flying silk livery as it approaches Roade on the WCML working the 07.23 Euston to Birmingham New Street. With the colours in the tress and the foliage, it could only be autumn. The light is also a bit odd due to the after-effects of Storm Callum.

86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Ashton Road bridge
It was worth the blustery walk across the field from home to capture this shot of 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' leading the 1Z86 Cumbrian Mountain Express running from London Euston to Carnforth. Here steam took over to lead the train over Shap to Carlisle and then return south via the Settle and Carlisle to Farrington Junction where the AC electric took over again for the return journey.
