Yet another grey and drab autumn morning, what happened to warm and mellow fruitfulness? A trip out in my Combo van to a new spot that I have been meaning to try local to home to see another Cumbrian Caost/Mountain Express.

350231, LM 06.14 Birmingham new Street-London Euston (1Y04, RT), Castlethorpe SP790453
350231 works the 06.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston 1Y04 working on the southern end of the WCML approaching Castlethorpe. This was a new spot for me even though it was relatively local to home, but as with so many it is plagued with the dreaded wires obscuring the train.

390127, VT 06.10 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A05, 3E), Castlethorpe SP790453
Just north of Castlethorpe that is itself is just north of Milton Keynes, is 390127 'Virgin Buccaneer'. It is heading south with the 1A05 06.10 Manchester to Euston service.

86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Coast Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86) & 350376, LM 06.01 Crewe-London Euston (1U16, RT), Castlethorpe SP790453
I saw this situation developing in front of my eyes on Open Train Times as both these train approached me! However, just for once, the photography gods were with me as 350376 forming the 06.01 Crewe to Euston just got out of the way. It's a shame that the coaching stock of the The Cumbrian Coast Express is obscured but at least 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' is in full view as it heads north with the 1Z86 excursion. The trains are seen just north of castlethorpe between Wolverton and Hanslope Junction on the WCML.

66589, 03.35 Garston-London Gateway (4L52), Castlethorpe SP790453
66589 heads the 4L52 03.35 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner along the up slow line just north of Castlethorpe in Buckinghamshire. Another shot taken 'through' the wires that is far from perfect but when access to the lineside at lower levels is so limited then it has to do!

350114, LM 07.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1W03, 9L), Castlethorpe SP790453
350114 forms the 07.49 Euston to Birmingham as it heads north past an occupation bridge at castlethorpe between Wolverton and Hanslope Junction.

350116, LM 07.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1Y10, 2E) & class 221, VT 08.03 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G07, 1E), Castlethorpe SP790453
Two trains operated by two TOCs pass just north of Castlethorpe which is located between Wolverton and Hanslope Junction on the southern WCML. To the left, London Midland 350116 heads south forming the 07.14 Birmingham to Euston. Whilst to the right a Virgin Trains' Class 221 heads north with the 08.03 Euston to Birmingham service.

66197, 04.02 London Gateway-Birch Coppice (4M11), Castlethorpe SP790453
66197 tows a lot of air in the form of an empty looking 04.02 London gateway to Birch Coppice 4M11 Freightliner. It is strange how some workings are absolutely full to the gunwales but others, like this one, are virtually empty. I suppose logistics has something to do with it but it must be an expensive business towing empty wagons about. The train is passing just north of Castlethorpe on the southern WCML near Wolverton.
