My wife,son and I had a lovely day out in Pisa and, naturally, we went by train from Florence SNM. The journey took about an hour and was in a very nice and comfortable, if not a little utilitarian, air conditioned stock.

 Our train to Pisa, the 11.00 to the coastal town of Livorno . It is being led by 464.680 that has received the attention of the the graffiti vandals. The journey was fast, comfortable and to time!

668.3195, unidentified working, Florence SMN station 
 DMU 668.3195 has just arrived at platform one of Florence PNM station with an unidentified working. This unit was built by Fiat Ferroviaria in the early 1980s.

 The frontage of Pisa Central station. It is a busy station with 16 platforms that handles fifteen million passengers per year, the majority being tourists.

 A feature of many Italian trains and infrastructure is the work of the graffiti vandals. EMU 642.023 stands stabled at Pisa Central station. the class 642 number about sixty units that were built by Ansaldo-Breda (now part of Hitachi) in the early 1990s.

 A bust scene at Pisa Central station as our train returning to Florence arrives. 464.477 leads the 16.12 Livorno to Florence SMN 3136 service. We were pleased to climb into its air conditioned coaches as it had turned into an extremely hot afternoon and after doing all the sites that Pisa had to offer we were 'all done'!

 Shunter 245.4493 sits in Pisa MOD yard awaiting its next job. There are many of these six-wheeled shunters, that utilise Voith hydraulic transmission, throughout the Italian network. They were built between the early 1960s and the late 1980s.

 Our tickets to and from Pisa. At €50 for all three of us, it was an expensive trip but I am not convinced that we did this the cheapest way?
