43465, GC 08.03 London King s Cross-Sunderland (1N90, RT), Shortmead House Crosing TL190460
43465 heads north past Shortmead foot crossing just north of Bigglesdwade. I wouldn't normally take a picture of a concrete post and a going away shot of an HST but this was one of the last pictures I might take of one of GC's buffer beam power cars as they were due to come off-lease at any time. The HST was forming the 08.03 King's Cross to Sunderland.

Class 43, GR 07.15 Leeds-London Kings Cross (1A09, RT), Biggleswade TL192433
An unidentified class 43 passes a foot crossing just south of Biggleswade forming the 07.15 Leeds to King's Cross. The reason that I have not been able to identify the power car is clear, the speed restriction sign is smack bang where it is written!

91116, GR 09.00 London Kings Cross-Edinburgh Waverley (1S09, 5L), Biggleswade TL192433
The 1S09 09.00 King's Cross to Edinburgh is seen at speed approaching Biggleswade at full line speed. The picture is taken from the safety of a foot crossing that was used by a number of people including dog walkers. This is exactly the type of crossing that Network Rail want to close.

Class 91, GR 09.03 London Kings Cross-Leeds (1D07, 2L), Biggleswade TL192433
The message is clear here at Smarts foot crossing south of Biggleswade. An unidentified named class 91 leads the 09.03 King's cross to Leeds at speed past the crossing. Network Rail's risk assessment describes the crossing as having an 'Individual risk rating: B (Very High)' but also notes that there has been no near miss, misuse or accident history.

DVT 82201 leads the 06.55 Skipton to King's Cross past Smarts foot crossing just south of Biggleswade. The signage is clear, but why on earth anybody would want to go anywhere near the track away from the foot crossing here with trains doing 125mph is beyond me!

180107, GC 06.55-Bradford Interchange-London Kings Cross (1A59, RT), Biggleswade TL192433

43307, GR 09.08 London Kings Cross-York (1N81, 4L), Biggleswade TL192433
43307 heads the 09.08 King's Cross to York HST working past Smarts foot crossing at Biggleswade. It was on these semi-fast services that the Deltics finished their days in the early 1980s, how ironic then that the HSTs are now doing the same thing as they enter the twilight of their careers on the ECML.

Taken from the oddly named New Zealand bridge 365528 and 365538 form the 09.34 King's Cross to Peterborough. These Networker class 365s are due for replacement next year as the class 700s are introduced, with no obvious new home, their future is uncertain.

91124 leads the 10.30 King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley 1S12 express past New Zealand footbridge just north of Sandy in Bedfordshire. With the exception of a Mk. III HST I could think of no better way to travel to Edinburgh than in a Mk. IV. I wonder if the new IETs will be as comfortable and as durable as these excellent trainsets have been over the twenty years that have been operating on the ECML?

91106, GR 10.35 London Kings Cross-Leeds (1D10 RT), Sandy TL176510
The sight and the sound (yes, the sound of an electric can be impressive!) of a class 91 at full chat on the mainline is impressive. Here, 91106 leads the 10.35 King's Cross to Leeds past New Zealand bridge north of Sandy.

82209, GR 06.55 Edinburgh Waverley-London Kings Cross (1E04 RT), Sandy TL176510
DVT 82209 leads the 06.55 Edinburgh Waverley to King's Cross past New Zealand bridge north of Sandy in Bedfordshire. There have been problems with these trainsets over the years that have in a large part been caused by the DVTs and their communication systems and not the class 91s themselves.

365537 and 365516 take the first curve after a four mile stretch of dead straight line working the 10.46 Peterborough to King's Cross. In the background the huge new Waterloo solar wind farm can be seen. It is so big that it is even named on the Ordnance Survey map!

43208 'Lincolnshire Echo' leads the 07.30 Edinburgh Waverley to King's Cross past New Zealand bridge just north of Sandy in Bedfordshire. 43208 as 43018 was a very early Western Region power car as part of set 253009. In a year or so it will all be over for this veteran piece if BR engineering....or will it?
