The Absent Shunter railtour ran from Newcastle to Crewe, then via the WCML to north London and finally to Basingstoke. It was unusual in that it ran on a Sunday and with no return working, I nipped out from home to see it passing Roade Hill between Roade and Ashton on the southern WCML.

Virgin Trains 390153 'Mission Accomplished' passes Ashton Hill between Northampton and Wolverton with the 12.47 Liverpool to Euston working. This is a super spot to photograph trains from about lunchtime onwards but only if you have a ladder to get above the palisade fencing.

The 1B29 13.30 Birmingham to Euston was running a little late here just south of Roade on the southern WCML but arrived even later into London. 390045 is forming the train and is about to pass under one of Network Rail's gargantuan colour light gantrys that I can see across the fieldd from my home!

221142 'Bombardier Voyager ' heads south at Ashton Hill between Roade and Wolverton working the 9A53 11.58 Lancaster to London Euston. Why path a glorified DMU on this turn that will travel the entire distance of 229 miles using diesel power under electrified lines?

Class 150 & 153334, 14.45 Bletchley CS-Tyseley ECS (5Y30), Ashton Hill
Every Sunday there are two ECS moves between Tyseley and Bletchley. These ECS moves being when the Marston Vale (Bedford to Bletchley) stock is exchanged. Fresh units come from Tyseley that then work a weeks on the line to head back again the next weekend whilst more fresh coming south again. Here a class 150 and 153334 head along the down slow as the 5Y30 14.45 Bletchley Carriage Sidings to Tyseley past Ashton Hill just south of Roade.
