Prior to a convivial curry evening with a couple of former work colleagues, I stopped off at Harrowden Junction just north of Wellingborough on the MML.

Signallers at control dealing with a problem at Harrowden Junction. As the HST formed of 43066 and 43073 was due to stop at kettering they have put it on the down slow. This to allow the non-stop Meridian formed by 222006 'The Carbon Cutter' to pass it and head on fast to Leicester. Had the recently installed relief line not been available, this move would not have been possible until virtually in Kettering station so it saved the day as both trains arrived within a few minutes of their intended arrival times.

The race is on! 222006 'The Carbon Cutter' accelerates away from Harrowden Junction with the 17.57 St. Pancras to Sheffield. This train will run non-stop through to its next stop at Leicester. Meanwhile, 43066 brings up the rear of the 17.45 St. Pancras to Derby, that is on the relief line ready for its next stop at Kettering some five miles to the north.

222004, EM 17.29 Sheffield-London St. Pancras (1C70, 2L), Harrowden Junction
222004 'Children's Hospital Sheffield' approaches Harrowden Junction between Kettering and Wellingborough on the MML with the 17.29 Sheffield to St. Pancras. It's a shame to think that this spot (along with many others on this line) will be blighted by the electrification infrastructure when it arrives next year.

222016 and 222021 take the down relief line at Harrowden junction in preparation for their next stop at kettering. From there, the 18.00 St. Pancras to Melton Mowbray will take the Corby line to Manton Junction. After termination at Melton Mowbray, it works as ECS to Nottingham via Syston North Junction ready to work another up service to St. Pancras again.

222011, EM 18.05 Nottingham-London St. Pancras (1B71, 3L), Harrowden Junction
In lovely evening sun, 222011 'Sheffield City Battalion 1914-1918' crosses Harrowden Junction working the 18.05 Nottingham to London St. Pancras. Before anybody complains, I am standing in a safe and perfectly legal position where the fence does a short dogleg to go under the bridge directly behind me.

43083 & 43047, EM 18.15 London St. Pancras-Leeds (1D62, 1E), Harrowden Junction
43083 and 43047 accelerate away from Wellingborough over Harrowden Junction forming the 1D62 18.15 St. Pancras to Leeds. 43083 was an Eastern Region power car as part of set 254014 where as 43047 was part of Western Region set 253023. Either way, both are about forty years old and still earning their keep thrashing up and down the Midland mainline day in day out!

43054 leads with 43089 at the rear of the 18.25 St. Pancras to Sheffield. It is seen between Wellingborough and Kettering at Harrowden Junction on a glorious summer's evening. I know how I would prefer to make this journey given the choice of an HST or a Meridian!

222003 'Tornado' forms the 18.57 St. Pancras to Sheffield past Harrowden Junction. The sun has got very low in the sky now and picks out lots of detail including the Meridian's small vinyl nameplate (for want of a better name!) on the first carriage.
