'Auguste Picard' and 'Sir Ernest Shackleton' speed through north Buckinghamshire! The 05.38 Lancaster to London Euston passes Hungate End just south of Hanslope Junction formed of Virgin's 221143 and 221108.

Hungate End is a remote spot down a lane that has to be walked or, as I often do, ridden on my bike. There are views both up and down the quadruple section of the WCML but shots are hampered by the wires. It is located just north of Wolverton and just south of the Hanslope Junction crossovers. 350246 heads south forming the 06.14 Birmingham to London Euston.

Having left Wolverhampton almost exactly an hour earlier, 390047 passes Hungate End near Hanslope Junction with the 06.45 to London Euston.

Bringing a dash of colour to the otherwise dull countryside, 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' leads the 07.10 Euston to Carlisle Cumbrian Mountain Express. The train is drawing away from its stop at Milton Keynes a little unusually on the down fast. Control normally path it on the down slow as far as Hanslope Junction, that is about a mile north of here. After a couple of Virgin services pass on the fast the CME is permitted to cross and follow them on the fast.

350259 works north on the down fast line crossing Three Arches bridge just north of the village of Castelthorpe between Milton Keynes and Northampton. It is working the 07.46 Euston to Crewe 'fast' service. I say 'fast' as it is as far as Colwich Junction (Staffordshire) from where it becomes a winding and slow stopper to Crewe following a circuitous route.

Having just passed each other, a class 390 heads south forming the 07.05 Wolverhampton to Euston. Meanwhile, 350129 heads north with the 07.05 Euston to Birmingham New Street. The location is Three Arches bridge just north of Castlethorpe on the southern WCML.
