350275 & 350124, LN 08.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W06, 3L), Northampton station
Our usual train to London arrives at Northampton station, the 1W06 08.33 from Birmingham New Street. The front unit is another of the Desiros that London Northwestern have repainted into a livery that they think looks good, it doesn't, it's got to be one of the worst on the network! 350275 is the unfortunate recipient, whereas 350124 at the rear is still in the re-branded London Midland livery,.

Class 319s, stabled, Bletchley Carriage Sidings
We came to a virtual standstill at Bletchley opposite the carriage sidings due to a freight crossing the slow lines. This gave an opportunity to photograph two of London Northwestern's retained class 319s. During the day they are stabled only seeing use at the extremely busy peak times in the early morning and evening.

66024 sits in Wembley Yard at the head of an unidentified up stone train. This 66 is still in its EWS livery with logos. It is one of the 66s introduced that utilised various fuel saving technology in an attempt to cut running costs and reduce pollution.

In its impressive ROG livery veteran type 3, 37601'Perseus', sits stabled in Wembley Yard. It's testament to their enduring design that fifty years after their design and introduction that these locomotives are still in front line duty on the network.

56303 & 90036, stabled, Wembley Yard
56303 has been in this position in Wembley Yard for sometime now. At the time of writing, I am not quite sure why and what the future holds? Behind it, 90036 'Driver Jack Mills' awaits its next duty. This locomotive has been doing a lot of work on the ECML standing for various 91s that have been having recent reliability issues.

Demolition of Euston Downside Carriage Maintenance Depot
The demolition of the former Euston Downside Carriage Maintenance Depot is almost complete now. This has been going on for some months and is so that various HS2 works can take place. In a few years, this scene will be very different.

390117, VT 19.07 London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street (1F26, 10L), London Euston station
Becoming increasingly less common is a Pendolino in its as-built livery as Virgin make progress turning them out in their flying silk paint scheme. Here, 390117 'Virgin Prince' waits to leave Euston with the 1F26 19.07 to Liverpool Lime Street.

221115 VT 19.10 London Euston-Holyhead (1D93, RT), London Euston station
Network Rail, who operate Euston, and Virgin, who operate these trains, have really not got to grips with the pollution issues created by these dreadful and inadequate Voyagers. They absolutely stink out Euston with their unpleasant exhaust permeating its way right up into the concourse. The same problem exists at the 'new' New Street station in Birmingham right up to the upper eating area. I really hope that when Euston is redeveloped that this matter is addressed by either getting rid of the Voyagers or eliminating the problem in other ways. 221115 waits to leave platform four with the 19.10 to Holyhead.

90041, CS 19.34 Wembley Inter City Depot-London Euston (5S95), London Euston station
Having made the short journey from Wembley Yard as the 5S95 ECS, 90041 is detached from the Caledonian Sleeper stock in readiness for its departure in a couple of hours. At the time of writing, this stock, introduced in the mid 1980s, is on borrowed time . The new Mk.IV sleeper stock (built abroad) is under testing ready for introduction by the end of 2018. In 1984. I remember chasing Mk.I sleeper stock all over the country, who would have thought some 35 years later I would be photographing their replacements prior to withdrawal?

350113, LN 19.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y79, RT), London Euston station
Our train home sits at platform six, 350113 waits to leave with the 19.49 to Birmingham New Street that my family would take as far as Northampton. On this particular night, this train was not over-crowed with only a few unfortunate passengers being forced to stand. On other nights, this service has been packed even with first class being de-classified.

Nameplate, 390034, VT 19.30 London Euston-Glasgow Central (1S06, 3L), London Euston station
As Virgin work through the Pendolino fleet turning them out in their new flying silk livery these traditional cast nameplates are removed. They are not reunited with the trains but alternative vinyls are stuck on to the bodysides. This seems a shame as the cast plates maintain a tradition of naming trains properly and making a statement about their identity. I wonder what is happening to the old cast plates? Here at Euston, 390034 'City of Carlisle' waits to leave with the 19.30 to Glasgow Central.
