66199, 07.07 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M44), Wembley Yard
66199 sits at the north end of Wembley yard with the 07.07 Dollands Moor to Daventry empty cargo vans. This has a fairly long layover in Wembley Yard before heading up to Northamptonshire to disgorge its bottled water.

56312 & 66182, stabled, Wembley Yard
56312 'Jeremiah Dixon, Son of County Durham, Surveyor of the Mason - Dixon Line USA' and 66182 sit stabled in Wembley Yard awaiting their next turn. The 56 was built as 56003 being one of the early Romanian locomotives. After withdrawal it ended up at the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. It then moved to the Nene valley railway for an overhaul and was operated by Hanson Traction and was renumbered 56312. It is now a DC branded loco. and looking for work!

Class 92 & 67006, stabled, Wembley Yard
A DB class 92 stands behind 67006 'Royal Sovereign' in Wembley Yard. This 67 is one of a pair dedicated to Royal Train duties.

57301 & 90042, stabled, Willesden MPD
57301 'Goliath' and 90042 ars both seen as our train speeds past Willesden MPD in the final approach to Euston. The two liveries of these engines is somewhat different. The brash and very bright Freightliner paintwork contrasts with the much more subtle and perhaps classy DRS livery.

350117, LM 07.55 Crewe-London Euston (1U22, RT) & 378218, LO 10.01 Watford Junction-London Euston (2C16, 1E), London Euston station
When it's a bright and sunny day, the interior of Euston is passable but when it's dull, the station is very dingy. Fortunately, it's a lovely late spring day and 350117 and 378218 are illuminated well. They have worked the 07.55 from Crewe and the 10.01 from Watford Junction respectively.

378255, LO 11.25 Stratford-Richmond (2N47, RT), Camden Viaduct from Chalk Farm Road bridge
The building work never ceases! Here, 378255 crosses Camden Viaduct with the 11.25 Stratford to Richmond cross-London working. The picture is taken from Chalk Farm Road bridge with the hustle and bustle of Camden Market right behind me. People can be seen enjoying the Regent's Canal on this lovely warm day.

59002, 10.38 Dagenham Docks-Acton (6V35), Camden Viaduct from Chalk Farm Road bridge
59002 'Alan J Day' negotiates its way through London over Camden Viaduct with the 10.38 Dagenham Docks to Acton. This class 59 entered service in February 1986. The class were the precursors to the class 66 design and have proved to be very successful in what they were designed for, heavy stone trains!

66570, 09.12 Felixstowe North-Ditton (4M63), Camden Viaduct from Camden Market
Whilst my wife explored Camden Market's more 'alternative' stalls I waited in one of the shops with a view of the railway. After a short time I was rewarded with 66570 passing over Camden Viaduct with the 09.12 Felixstowe North to Ditton Freightliner. The shop unit's owner had her eye on me, I think that she though I was a jumper as I stood at the open window for so long! The continuous building works here and throughout London staggers me; it's non-stop!

350103, LM 19.13 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y75, 7L) & 92010, CS LE, London Euston station
Passengers wait to board London Midland's 350103 that will work the 19.13 to Birmingham New Street. Next to it at Euston station, is 92010 that arrived and departed as a mysterious light engine movement.

350247, LM 18.54 London Euston-Milton Keynes Central (2K09, 24L), London Euston station
350247sits at the far side of Euston station. It will later work the 18.54 to Milton Keynes, a stopper service that takes an age to travel the 49 miles and is one that my wife an I always avoid using as it also involve s a change to get on to Northampton. Something obviously went wrong on this evening as the service arrived 24 minutes lat at it destination, the remaining commuters must have been delighted!

A classic evening 'glint shot' at London Euston. To the right, 390148 'Virgin Harrier' waits to depart with the 1S06 19.30 to Glasgow Central. Behind it, 390119 'Virgin Warrior' departs working the 19.23 9G41 to Wolverhampton.

350375, LM 19.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y79, 3L), London Euston station
Our train home waits at platform six at Euston station. 350375 is the lead unit of an eight-car unit that will work the 19.49 to Birmingham new Street. This is our train of choice as it offers a reasonable off-peak fare and is quick running non-stop to Leighton Buzzard on the down fast. Then, it only stops at Milton Keynes and Wolverton before reaching Northampton in about an hour.

56312, stabled, Wembely Yard
I never did find out why this visitor, 56312 'Jeremiah Dixon, Son of County Durham, Surveyor of the Mason - Dixon Line USA', was sitting in Wembley Yard. If anybody can offer some information on this please get in contact!

Willesden Carriage Shed North Signal Box
A remarkable survivor at the northern end of Wembley Yard is the 1953 built Willesden Carriage Shed North signal box. It controls the northern entry and exit to the extensive yard. Surely, it cannot be long until automation renders this relic of another age redundant?
