A lovely but chilly drive out with the roof down on my Audi TT to a spot next to the Grand Union Canal near to the village of Bugbrooke on the Weedon Loop of the WCML to see another Cumbrian Mountain Express.

390132, VT 06.27 Wolverhampton-London Euston (1B03, RT), Bugbrooke SP679564 Two technologies from totally different eras pass near Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire. A narrow boat makes its leisurely way along the Grand Union Canal disturbing the completely still water whilst 390132 'City of Birmingham' storms south forming the 06.27 Wolverhampton to Euston. 390157, VT 06.55 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H08, RT), Bugbrooke SP679564 Despite the sun shining and a clear blue sky looks can be deceiving. It was in-fact very chilly down by the Grand Union Canal and there were just hints of a little light frost on the grass despite it being nearly the end of May! 390157 'Chad Varah' heads north by the canal near to Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire with the 06.55 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly 1H08 working. 390148, VT 07.03 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G04, RT), Bugbrooke SP679564 With the Grand Union Canal in the foreground 390148 'Virgin Harrier' heads north near to Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire forming the 07.03 Euston to Birmingham New Street. To capture this image with no motion blur I used 1:2000/sec. From this distance it's sharp but close examination of the bodyside number revealed that 1:2500/sec would have been a better choice! 390136, VT 06.10 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A05, 1E), Bugbrooke SP679564 The wind is just beginning to ripple the water on the Grand Union Canal as 390136 'City of Coventry' passes heading south with the 06.10 Manchester to Euston. Here, 390137 'Virgin Difference' forms the 07.20 Euston to Manchester 1H09 working. The train is seen side-by-side with the Grand Union Canal near the village of Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire. 86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Bugbrooke SP679564 Just before 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' passed Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire hauling the outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express the bull ate his way into the picture in the field the other side of the Grand Union Canal! He certainly adds a bit of extra interest to the image and somebody liked it as it was used in Rail Magazine! The sky has some high level Cirus uncinus clouds that do not usually present a threat weather wise, indeed, the day turned out to be a smashing one! 86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Bugbrooke SP679564 A side on view of 86259 with its 'Peter Pan' nameplates (the other side it's Les Ross) passing near to Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire with the outward leg of the 1Z86 Cumbrian Mountain Express. The canal in the foreground is the Grand Union that, like the line behind, links London to Birmingham by very similar routes!
