A spot on the MML that I have driven past on the M1 so many times but never visited is between Leagrave and Harlington at a location called Sundon Loop. Picking Andy and his family up from Luton Airport presented an opportunity so I called in on the way down driving his ancient Nissan Serena! A rural spot but one that is totally dominated by the incredible noise from the adjacent M1.

222022 'Invest In Nottingham' passes Sundon working the 12.47 St. Pancras to Corby. The Meridian is on the down fast of the MML and passing near to Sundon South Junction between Leagrave and Harlington.

700118, TL 11.33 Gatwick Airport-Bedford (9R28, 1E), Sundon TL035269
Thameslink 700118 takes the down slow between Leagrave and Harlington stations on the MML. The new class 700 is working the 11.33 Gatwick Airport to Bedford, a journey it has taken via London Bridge and St. Pancras. The picture is taken from a footbridge over the line that carries the Chiltern Way over the railway.

222010, EM 12.41 Corby-London St. Pancras (1P40, 2L), Sundon TL035269
222010 catches the afternoon sun as it heads south past Sundon in Bedfordshire with the 12.41 Corby to London St. Pancras. This is a complex scene caused by the multitude of power lines both for the railway and the high voltage transmission wires in the background emanating from a substantial Sundon sub-station.

700133, TL 11.26 Brighton-Bedford (9T24, 2L), Sundon TL035269
Thameslink's 700133 heads north past Sundon working the 11.26 Brighton to Bedford. Even though this appears to be a quiet rural scene, looks can be deceiving. To my immediate right is the M1 motorway . The constant noise from its procession of vehicles was incessant and spoilt the hour or so I spent n this area.

66181, 13.31 Luton Crescent Road-Mountsorrel (6D45), Sundon TL035269
66181 brings the 13.31 Luton Crescent Road to Mountsorrel empty stone train past Sundon between Leagrave and Harlington in Bedfordshire. Apologies for the wire running through the roof of the 66 but angles were tricky at this footbridge and even taking this one necessitated me laying on my front looking through under the parapet of the bridge!

700127, TL 12.33 Gatwick Airport-Bedford (9R32, 1E) Sundon loops TL034279
700127 passes Sundon Loop with the 12.33 Gatwick Airport to Bedford. This section of the MML is actually a five tracks wide. On the far side is a section of track about two miles long called Sundon Loop. Interestingly, my incredibly detailed track atlas does not show this loop. The bridge in the background carries the Icknield Way Trail over the railway.

222007, EM 13.47 London St. Pancras-Corby (1M41, 6L), Sundon Loops TL034279
222007 heads north past Sundon Loop with the 13.47 London St. Pancras to Corby. I am standing by the old lineside fence to take this picture as this section of line has yet to suffer from the installation of palisade fencing.

700133, TL 14.05 Bedford-Gatwick Airport (9R33, 1E), Sundon Loops TL034279
Having worked to Bedford earlier, 700133 returns with the 9R33 14.05 to Gatwick Airport. It catches a bit of afternoon sun on the five-track section between Harlington and Leagrave called Sundon Loop. As this 12-coach 700/1 passed I observed no more than a handful of passengers aboard.
