Following to dropping the hire car off after the Anglo-Scottish adventure of the last few daysI had to collect my Combo van (Vernon!) from where it had been parked in Milton Keynes whist Andy and I were away. I took the train to Wolverton and rode on the Brompton to collect it with a coincidental bonus at Wolverton Works.

350129 and one of its stablemates leaves one of Northampton's bay platforms with the 08.16 to Birmingham New Street. After weeks of hot and dry weather it had rained the previous night and the temperature was considerably cooler and for the first time in quite a while I wore a jacket!

350102 leads another Desiro into Northampton station working the 07.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston. I took this 1Y10 working the short distance to Wolverton with my Brompton neatly folded up in vestibule!

66145, 04.31 Southampton FLT-Lawley Street FLT (4M62), Wolverton station
The 4M62 04.31 Southampton to Lawley Street Freightliner is diverted on to the WCML instead of its usual route via Oxford and Banbury. It is seen passing through Wolverton station seconds after the train that I had travelled from Northampton on had disappeared from view on the up slow.

37884 & 455845, 08.54 Wolverton Centre Sidings-Stewarts Lane (5O88), Wolverton Centre Sidings
As I was riding my bike along Mcconnell Drive from Wolverton to Milton Keynes I glanced across to the WCML and saw this scene! 37884 'Cepheus' leaves Wolverton's Centre Sidings leading 455845 back to Stewarts Lane. The class 455 had been receiving attention at Wolverton and was returning to the Southern to resume its duties.

08629, Wolverton Centre Siding-Wolverton Works, Mcconnell Drive SP820409
Having towed Southern's 455845 from Wolverton Works to the Centre Sidings 08629 'Wolverton' returns to the works with its barrier wagon. 08629 was built at Derby Works in 1959 and released into traffic as D3796. After a spell at Warrington it then moved to Willesden and then to Bletchley so being a Wolverton Work's shunter it has not moved far!

Ticket, Northampton-Wolverton
I know that I bought the most expensive type of ticket, a walk on anytime single but, nonetheless, at nearly £8 for a ten minute journey I think that this is extortionate when you work out that it's 60p/mile! The UK's fare structure is simply crazy and far too complicated and the next of the promised reviews cannot come soon enough but I suspect that not much will change, again!
