350111, LM 14.30 London Euston-Crewe (1U39, RT) & 378214, LO 14.37 London Euston-Watford Junction (2D72, 2E), London Euston station
Desiro V. Capitalstar, who would win in a game of top trumps? On speed, the Desiro has it but on capacity it would be the Capitalstar! Two similar designs but doing a different job so a direct comparison is not so easy I suppose. 350111 waits to leave Euston with the 14.30 to Crewe whilst 378214 is about to leave with the 14.37 to watford Junction.

350104, LM 14.47 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (2Y65, 3L), London Euston station
350104 pokes its nose outside the gloom of Euston station ready to work the 14.47 to Birmingham New Street. My wife, son and I took this train home back to Milton Keynes.

390131, VT 16.00 London Euston-Carlisle (1S82, RT), London Euston station
The 1S92 16.00 to Carlisle waits to leave Euston station. Sporting its Business in the Community branding 390131'City of Liverpool' is forming this service.

66730, stabled, Wembley Yard
With the Wembley stadium arch in the background, this can only be Wembley Yard! 66730 'Whitemoor' awaits its next turn of duty. The 66 was named after the huge PW yard that has been developed on the site of the old depot and marshalling yard in November 2011.

66065, stabled, Wembley Yard
66065 in its old EWS livery but with a crudely applied DB vinyl on the cab side sits at the north end of Wembley Yard with a northbound Freightliner. This train will depart from the yard and follow us up the WCML soon after we have passed.

390039, VT 15.00 London Euston-Carlisle (1S78, RT) from 350104, LM 14.47 London Euston-Birmingham New Street, near Cheddington
On the four track section of the WCML it is quite common for one train to pass another when both are travelling in the same direction. It creates a strange sensation of slow motion and a chance to wave to fellow passengers! I have captured such a scene here near Cheddington just south of Leighton Buzzard. 390039, forming the 15.00 Euston to Carlisle, slowly overhauls 350104 on which we were travelling working the 14.47 Euston to Birmingham New Street.
