A short visit to Amsterdam Central station. Again, I utilised the key card gate pass that I was issued with yesterday.

1761, 17.00 Amsterdam Central Hannover Hbf (Int. 241) & ICM 17.03 Amsterdam Central-Amersfoort (IC 1561), Amsterdam Central station
On a beautiful late afternoon 1761 leaves Amsertdam Central station with the 17.00 cross-border international to Hannover. Hauled by a Nederlandse Spoorwege electric locomotives of some 6 200hp, they were built by Alstom in the early 1990s and are based on the SNCF 1600s of the 1980s. There were 81 built but some have succumbed to, for example fire! An IC3 stands to the left waiting to leave for Amersfoort.

1768, 17.06 Amsterdam Central-Enkhuizen (IC 4554), Amsterdam Central station
1768 stands in the dappled lighting under Amsterdam Central's huge 40m wide train shed. It's at the rear end of the IC 4554 17.06 to Enkhuizen.

2985 & 2951, 15.52 Rhenen-Uitgeest (Sprinter 7454 & 4754), Amsterdam Central station
A three-set Sprinter train in the UK would absolutely nothing like this! At the most it would be six cariages long, this Dutch Sprinter is twelve long! The front two units are 2985 and 2951, the third I did not get, it was so far up the platform! This substantial 'local' train is working the 15.52 Rhenen to Uitgeest. There will be no dangerous levels of overcrowding issues on this Sprinter service!

406054, 13.29 Frankfurt Hbf-Amsterdam Central (ICE 124), Amsterdam Central station
Deutsche Bahn own and operate these class 406 ICE 3 units but for the services to and from Amsterdam there is a pool of sets that are jointly operated by DB and NS. Brimming with technology (that actually works!) they offer comfortable, reliable and high speed links between many northern European cities. Having worked the 13.29 from Frankfurt Hbf, 406054 prepares to make its way as ECS to a spot just west of Central station for a layover before working back to Germany a couple of hours later.

1751, 17.36 Amsterdam Central-Enkhuizen (IC 4556), Amsterdam Central station
Bearing a striking resemblance to French class BB 7200, on which they were based, these Alstom built class 1700s have been a pretty reliable set of locomotives since their introduction in the early 1990s. 1751 waits to propel the 17.36 to Enkhuizen away from Amsterdam Central station.

Key card for gates
The key card that was used to permit access to Amsterdam Central station. An excellent idea that could be adopted here in the UK to avid the all too often requests asked of gate line staff to be permitted in order to pursue our hobby.
