Our traditional New Year's Day visit to the Northampton and Lamport Railway just a short distance from home. In pouring rain, my wife, son and I walked up from Merry Tom Lane and took the Mince Pie Special that was steam hauled by the resident Peckett R4 Class 0-4-0ST 2104.

2104, 12.00 Pitsford & Brampton return Pitsford & Brampton station
My wife shelters under her umbrealla and my son walks ahead in his Parka hoping to catch the 12.00 Mince Pie Special that is standing in Pitsford and Brampton station. It is hauled by Peckett 0-4-0 2104. It's diminutive size is clear when it stands in front of standard gauge stock as seen here. 2104 was constructed in 1948 and delivered for use at Croydon ‘B’ Power Station. It also had a starring role in the 1984 classic TV series The jewel in the Crown.

2104, 12.00 Pitsford & Brampton return, crossing Bridge 13
Peckett 0-4-0 2104 works hard through the rain hauling the 12.00 Pitsford and Brampton Mince Pie Special return working. It is seen near to the fabled Bridge 13 that cost the NLR so dear when extending their line northwards.

2104, 13.00 Pitsford & Brampton return, Pitsford & Brampton station
Northampton and Lamport Railway's Peckett 0-4-0 2104 blows off at Pitsford and Brampton station. It was waiting to depart with 13.00 Mince Pie Special return working. Notice in the background, the signal box. This controls the signalling and points within the station area. The box was originally situated at Little Bowden Crossing in Market Harborough. This 1879 LNWR signal box shut when the Market Harborough to Northampton line, on which the NLR is situated, closed in 1981.

Sherry, mince pie & tickets
The team at the Northampton and Lamport Railway put on a good show at Christmas and New Year. On New Year's Day, customers are served a glass of sherry and a mince pie to welcome in the year. My wife, son and I always like to support their work.
