A few mates and me had a day out at Cardiff central. We took the train to Bristol from Bradford-on-Avon. We then made the journey to Cardiff through the Severn Tunnel. On the way back, we stopped off at Newport It was a glorious early spring day, a portents of the summer to come, and I remember that I got loads of cops! The quality of these pictures is particular poor, I'm not sure why but this has meant that they have needed a lot of 'restoration'.

08589, station pilot, Cardiff Central station
08589 and its driver sit in the sunshine at Cardiff Central. This shunter was busy as the station pilot moving various wagons and coaches around the environs of the station. 08589 was a Cardiff Canton locomotive all of its life being withdrawn in 1992 and cut-up at Gwent Demolition Margam only a short distance from where it spent this working life.

Class 47 & class 116 DMU, unidentified workings, Cardiff Central station
An unidentified class 47 runs into Cardiff Central station with a service from the west. In the background is a class 116 DMU probably working a valleys working of some kind. Notice the BRUTE trolley on the platform end and the spotter on his knees as the train arrives, perhaps he was a 'Duff worshiper' of some kind?

Class 123 DMU set L713, unidentified Cardiff Central-Crewe working (2M67), Cardiff Central station
A four-car class 123 DMU set number L713 (W52105, W59821, W59237 & W52093) sits at Platform 1 of Cardiff Central. It is five months since headcodes were abandoned but this train is still wearing 2M67. If it was a driver who still wanted to maintain old traditions, then this DMU was working a Cardiff to Crewe working. If not, then I have no idea as to its destination? It's a busy scene at Cardiff with lots of people, a lot of whom were spotters I suspect. Notice the buffet sign illuminated selling its Traveller's Fare products of dubious quality!

Class 47, unidentified up working, Cardiff Central station
An unidentified class 47 arrives in to Cardiff Central's number two platform with a train from the west. In this busy view, notice the loaded flat-bed parcels trolley and the clock reading two o'clock, perhaps this might be able to lead to an identification of the class 47 and the working?
