A Saturday morning trip to Westbury for some 'spotting'. It looks as I visited the depot and also walked to Dilton Marsh.

B573, unidentified down working, Bradford-on-Avon station
A class 119 DMU, set number B573 composed of W51055, W59417 and W51083 arrives at Bradford-on-Avon with an unidentified down working to Weymouth. I travelled on this DMU to Westbury.

D1048 (not D1008!), fuelling point, Westbury MPD
Sitting in the spring sunshine at Westbury MPD is D1048 'Western Lady'. This Western was not D1008 ' Western Harrier', as indicated by the headcode panel, as that member of the class had been withdrawn two years previously. Either somebody with a good sense of humour had adjusted the headcode panel or it was simply an error, either way, it's a nice record shot whilst bagging an unofficial depot tour!

1105, unidentified Portsmouth Harbour-Bristol temple Meads working, Dilton Marsh
I had a real fondness for these Southern Region class 205 DEMU units. Here, unit number 1105 eases down the steep bank past Dilton Marsh towards Westbury working a Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol temple Meads working. These units were powered by an English Electric 4SRKT 600hp engine mounted above the frame rather than underneath as is common practice today. Indeed, the leading coach in this picture clearly is the powered one. It also has the inverted black triangle applied. This had nothing to do with the engine but as an indication to postal staff giving them early warning that this was the coach that contained the brake van helping them to unload and load mail more efficiently.
