Whilst off school and recovering from chickenpox I was allowed by my mum to spend a day at Westbury. A lot was recorded in the notebook but only two pictures were taken. I took the train from and to Bradford-on-Avon, but the highlight was undoubtedly a cab ride in a Class 31 from Bradford-on-Avon to Trowbridge.

08951, shunting, Westbury station
08951 is captured shunting the breakdown train from Westbury station platform. Like so many Class 08s, it had a varied career over the years. This particular one was a West Country machine for many years going to Cardiff Canton after a spell here at Westbury. It moved north for a while and then ended up in private hands at Sheerness steelworks at the start of the new millenium.
31309, 1158 Weymouth-BTM, Westbury station
31309 stands at Westbury station leading the 11.58 Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads working. In this picture, the Bescot based 31 is looking a bit tatty. In later years it moved east, regained its trademark white stripe and was renamed Cricklewood. Notice that three of the headcode display blinds have been removed leaving the bulbs that illuminate them from the rear exposed through the glass.
