Askam signal box (Furness, 1890) The superb Furness signal box at Askham dates from 1890 and is still in operation despite its planned closure in 2012! Whist Volker Rail was much in evidence during this visit along the Cumbria Line I do not believe that they were working towards full modernisation of the signalling but tinkering around the edges.
