Juat beyond the buffer stops is the Northern portion of the station with services running to Manchester via Wigan. The arrangement is similar to that at Ormskirk. With the introduction of the battery-powered Class 777/1s services could then operate from Liverpool direct as far as Kirkby where the station is located. One of the seven battery-powered Class 777s waits in the sunshine at Headbolt Lane that will work the 14.26 service to Liverpool central. Andy and I took this train back to Sandhills.
