Billingshurst signal box is an early example of a London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Type 1B built in 1876. It is a Grade II listed structure so its future is assured when the line is resignaled in the next year or so. Its windows facing towards the station are partially obscured by the footbridge that was a later addition not helping the sighting of the signalman!
PS The box was saved following closure a year after this photograph was taken and re-erected at the Amberley Museum after extensive repairs were undertaken particularly to the staircase area (added 06.24)
