Both Bognor Regis and here at Littlehampton were due to have been re-signalled back in 2008 but the scheme was abandoned under a spending review so mechanical signalling remains in full operation. Littlehampton box is a charming 1886 London Brighton & South Coast Railway Type 2 design structure that is largely original despite the locking room windows having been bricked up. It's rarity is compounded due to it having surviving timber valancing above the windows a very rare feature of a London Brighton & South Coast railway Type 2 signal box being a feature usually reserved for their stations.
