Farnham station was opened in 1849 on the short line linking the town directly with Guildford via Wanborough but it was not until 1870 when a further line was built connecting with Aldershot and beyond. Third rail electrification came in 1937 with the initial line in the direction of Guildford then closing. Despite appearances showing an empty car park, apart from Andy with his trusty Micra, the station is usually busy primarily with commuters heading towards London. A new depot that maintains and services the Class 450 Desiros opened in 2009 and is located some distance west of the station.
