Northern units are rare visitors to Northamptonshire! More usually found in the Tyne Valley or crossing the Pennines 156458 is almost at the end of its journey south close to its destination of Wolverton Works. Wolverton is doing various work to second-generation DMUs (and also EMUs) to extend their life. A contact of mine who is employed undertaking this work tells me that alarming corrosion to the floors of these units is taking a lot of time to repair and replace. This unit left Heaton (Newcastle) at 11.17 running as 5H70. There was also supposed to be a GWR unit heading this way from Bristol also going to Wolverton but it was cancelled as it had not left Exeter the previous day.
