Paddington or Euston? Class 800 IETs are not commonly seen away from their GWR territory and in what I believe to be a first, an example of the class is seen in Euston station undergoing various tests and checks. Overseen by a team from GWR 802101 'Nancy Astor' waits at platform twelve to depart as the 14.06 to North Pole depot via reversals at Willesden and Kensington Olympia. This very strange move is to test if the IETs can be used next Christmas during the extended closure of the GWML to operate services in and out of Euston.

This photograph was printed in Rail issue 1006 with my accompanying notes.
