37423, NMR train, Peterborough North On arrival back at Peterborough from Edinburgh, I left my wife and son at the station to go and collect the car from where I had parked it on Woodfield Road. On crossing the ECML to the north of the station the NMT was sitting under the bridge with 37423 'Spirit of The Lakes' leading the three yellow Mk. II coaches. Dominating the background is Peterborough PSB which opened in December 1972 wiping away several manual boxes in the process. However at now over forty years of operation time has been called with it due to be replaced by a huge regional signalling centre at York sometime in the next few years that is if Network Rail keeps up with its own schedule of works; something it is not very good at!
