It entered service at the beginning of September following an eight-year-long programme that saw the car completely stripped and rebuilt to the 'as built' condition complete with speed whiskers. The job was made more tricky as BR had converted the car for use as a Sandite unit and also that it had been attacked by metal thieves and vandals during a long period of storage at the Churnet Valley Railway prior to moving to the North Norfolk line. Paired with fellow blue square compatible Class 101 M51188 the two units are seen at Weybourne working the 10.20 Holt to Sheringham service.
