Oh. dear, all is quiet at Retford! Due to a major electrical issue with ETH leads everything in the Deltic had shut down without even any internal lights so the crew could see what was going on inside. A decision was made to summon WCR's Thunderbird from Newark so that we could get on our way. In the meantime, using the lights from their mobile 'phones, DPS engineers managed to shorten and fabricate a new connection for the errant cable, reset the breakers and get both engines started thus indicating that the failure was not too serious. However, it was not deemed to be a reliable fix and as the Thunderbird was already on its way it was decided to continue south as rearranged. After about forty-five minutes the Thunderbird arrived and was attached to the front and we were on our way again.
