Sleaford West signal box has been retained to operate the King Edward Street level crossing on which I am standing to take this photograph of the fine Great Northern box dating from 1882. Apart from replacement UPVC windows that at least have a similar glazing arrangement to the originals, the box looks good complete with its slate roof, wooden panelling and finials. Until the two busy level crossings in Sleaford become automated both East and West boxes will remain in use.
