Andy crossing former GN & GE River Welland bridge, Spalding
Andy walks across the former railway bridge in Spalding that spans the River Welland. Until 1982 it carried the Spalding to March double track line opened by the GN and GE Joint. Whilst the route is largely intact active and continuing discussions around its reopening are regularly aired. However, any reconstruction would need to take an alternative route such as here in Spalding. Perhaps the £200 million that was spent on the Werrington dive under and line separation scheme could have been better spent reopening the GN & GE Joint route thus negating the need for the former?
