Former French Drove signal box (GN, 1882)
When I last visited this spot over forty years previously French Drove signal box was in an open and exposed position on the Fens now it is surrounded on all sides by trees but mercifully it still stands and is in use as a private residence. The 1882 Great Northern box controlled the level crossing as well as being a block post between Murrow West and Postland. It also controlled and up and down loop to the north of the crossing. I am not sure why the loops were installed on the former GN & GE Joint line in this remote area but perhaps they were installed during the war years when traffic increased dramatically in this area, advice anybody?
