Home bracket signal, Murrow West
Home bracket signal, Murrow West
When I visited Murrow West back in 1981 I have it noted in my book that I saw a disused bracket signal to the west of Murrow signal box but that it had no arms. The arms have now been added by the owner of the reclaim yard in which the bracket is sited. The home and distant doll controlled the M & GN single-track route from Peterborough (behind me) to Wisbech that crossed the GN & GR Joint line on a flat crossing just beyond the former railway cottage on the left. The single home permitted trains to pass from the M & GN south on to the GN & GR route via short and tight spur. This was added late in 1961 to permit bricks to be taken by rail from the Eye and Dogsthorpe brickworks for onward transportation from Whitemoor Yard following the closure of the rest of the Peterborough to Wisbech line. This operation did not last long with the complete closure of the M & GN rote coming in 1966.
