I stood in a very similar spot in the summer of 1981looking in the same direction towards March's vast Whitemoor Yard. Then the original bridge spanned Twenty Feet River carrying the double track GN & GE Joint line between March and Spalding that was to close a year later. In the centre distance was Twenty Feet River signal box sitting on the embankment. It was a modern box opened in 1974 replacing the older GE Twenty Feet Siding box that was collapsing into the fenland soil. The newer box only had a working life of eight years being closed when the Joint line was shut in 1982. It did stand boarded up for several years after closure looking particularly sad in a pretty desolate Fenland landscape!
