The smart and coordinated interior of one of the refurbished Mk. III coaches that form part of the Castle sets operating between Cardiff and Penzance via Bristol and Exeter. Whilst the seats are predominantly airline style there are some tables for four and most seats are window aligned. The spacing of the seating was good and all had access to a thirteen-amp and USB sockets. The lighting was terrific and the general fit and finish were excellent. It seems such a shame then that GWR has announced that the Castle sets are to be withdrawn at the end of the year to be replaced with the far inferior IET 800s; a retrograde step for the travelling public of the West of England if ever I have seen one.
