This is what Andy and I have come to Birmingham for having to make an early start from Northampton! 43301 comes to a halt at platform ten with the 06.12 Leeds to Plymouth service. With CrossCountry's refurbishment, they still look fresh and purposeful and a train that the travelling public instantly recognises. However, close inspection does reveal cracks and signs of water ingress in places! Andy and travelled on the 1V44 service as far as Bristol enjoying the luxury of a Mk. III coach even if the automatic sliding door behind us would not close making it a little louder than normal. There was much interest on the platform including from the ROG driver seen to the left of the train. He told us that there were talks ongoing regarding the CrossCountry sets possibly going to either Mexico or South Africa after they are returned to Portobrook at the end of the summer. If they go to the latter, the HSTs will need to be re-gauged which would be interesting!
