The third train of the three that I went out to see on this rather cold and dull spring Sunday afternoon passes through Roade cutting. The Network Rail test train had been undertaking survey work on Southern metals with several postings revealing where it had been over the last few days. I suspect that the 10.55 Hither Green to Derby RTC run operated by 73964 ‘Jeanette’ (front) and 73963 ‘Janice’ (rear) was simply returning to its base rather than undertaking survey work as this is usually a weekly run operated by one of NR’s HSTs on a Tuesday. In addition to this, the train gradually gained time throughout its run arriving nearly an hour early at Derby.
