Most through London Northwestern services from Birmingham to Euston do not so much as pause at Northampton (about halfway between the two cities) but have a layover! This must be very frustrating for passengers making the thorough journey sitting for twenty minutes or so whilst the train is watered and cleaned. Is this really acceptable on the modern railway and is the extended stop there to suit London Northwestern,? Our train south to London, the 08.36 from New Street, complete with its 'do not move' sign, waits at Northampton station. At least we arrived in the capital bang on time!
