With a friendly signalman on-duty Graham and I were afforded pretty much-unrestricted access around the environs of Witham (Somerset) signal box as long as we stayed well away from the running lines. It was located on the southern side of the tracks between Frome and Bruton at the point where the branch to Merehead quarry left line. I have precious little information about the box but from its non-hipped roof and brick base, I would suggest that it is Type 12 dating from wartime when this simpler and cheaper design was adopted...advice anybody, please.
