Today is a classic example of where the railways have failed to take account of events and compensate accordingly. By doing this they have caused inconvenience to the travelling public giving them justifiable cause to complain and moan about poor railway service. With a major meet at Chester racecourse, the shuttle between there and Crewe did not appear to have been bolstered to support the extra thousands of people using public transport. We travelled on the 11.54 Chester to Crewe formed by 153329 and one other single unit that itself was very busy. The incoming trains were absolutely packed with racegoers none of which appeared to have been bolstered to make things more comfortable. In BR days extra and longer trains would have been put on to provide an adequate 'service' that is what the railways are all about after all!
