We travelled on 170109 working the 08.52 Birmingham to Leicester as far as its destination with Day Ranger validity commencing from Hinkley. Unfortunately, the first problem that we encountered was on this train wondering why it was not working through to Peterborough and beyond discovering that services on that route were much reduced due to engineering works with the dreaded bsutitution. This meant that our initial plan to go straight to Peterborough then dash along the ECML to Grantham had to be abandoned!
