A general air of decay and a lack of care

had enveloped Whimple station with it in receipt of a very poor level of service by this stage in 1981. A survivor from pre-Britsih Railways days appears to be this bench painted in a somewhat faded Southern Railway green paint with the station's name hand-painted. It was located on the down platform that has now been removed and the area flattened with the single track now serving the former up platform.
