50038 'Formidable' leads the 07.38 Exeter St. David's to Waterloo service away from the small station at Whimple in Devon. 50038 still looks smart in its large logo livery applied during its six-month refurbishment being released back into traffic in November 1980. The photograph is deliberately framed off centre to also include the delightful Southern Railway goods shed that is remarkably intact complete with its timber canopy. The yard, whilst much diminished in size, still contained a couple of wagons and appeared to be in use witnessed by the pile of pallets.
