1752, the 1K68 'Westbury Express' approaches its destination with 50044 'Exeter' leading. Taking the sharply curved and steeply cambered approach to Westbury North both the distant and the home signals have been pulled of permitting access to the station. The rather unassuming flat piece of derelict land to the left is where the Westbury panel box was built some three years after this photograph was taken that precipitated the wiping away of the fine array of mechanical signalling on the lines of this Wiltshire town.
