With various advertising hoardings in the background, a Kensington Olympia shuttle service waits to leave Earl's Court station. Carrying the number 23514 and with its distinctive windows indicates that it is an R Stock train now some thirty years old. The first sets of this venerable London Underground stock had been withdrawn when this photograph was taken in 1981 a process that was completed by 1983 with the D78 stock largely replacing them. The design of the farings on either side of the windows is strangely reminiscent of the Abram Games design for the emblem of the 1951 Festival of Britain, see......
