Steam on the southern end of the WCML is becoming a bit of a rarity so I thoroughly expected The Chersirmean charter hauled by Black 5 44871 to draw the lineside crowds even on this very dull November morning! As such I decided to try out a spot that had been meaning to visit for some time, a small and isolated foot crossing across a couple of fields near the Northamptonshire village of Watford (of Watford Gap services fame). Just prior to the arrival of the charter I was joined by two others, Damien and Hayden from Wellingborough who had ridden on their bikes leaving at 05.00! I was a little undecided as to which side to take the photograph from opting for this view from the up side of the track thinking there was little wind to blow the smoke. In hindsight, I should have gone for the slightly more restricted down side as the smoke has drifted a lot more than I anticipated. Never mind, it was never going to be an award-winning image was it really!
