The driver and fireman of 9F 2-10-0 92203 'Black Prince' peer down their train waiting for the guard to give them the right away. Their locomotive is a fine example of what is widely regarded as the pinnacle of steam locomotive design. The 9Fs came very late to the British railway network with the vast majority being introduced to service after many of the first-generation diesel were in use! 92203 was built at Swindon entering service in April 1959 being withdrawn in November 1967 giving it a paltry eight years in use.
