Plaque, Edge Hill station
The blue plaque inside the ticket office at Edge Hill station proclaiming its historical importance. It reveals that the original western terminus of the Liverpool to Manchester railway at Crown Street was only open for some five years. Crown Street was simply too far from the city centre hence why Lime Street was opened being linked to Edge Hill via the present-day steeply graded mixture of gloomy deep cuttings and tunnels.
