This train was just five minutes behind the previous one that we were going to catch at Birmingham Moore Street. However, whilst the earlier train was packed and not at all COVID secure this one was relatively empty even after picking up numerous school children during its journey. We took 172006 working the 15.09 Dorridge to Worcester Foregate Street as far as Droitwich but all was not plain sailing! It made very slow progress beyond Stourbridge at a pedestrian pace with frequent stops suggesting that there was some sort of track circuit failure. We had intended to head to Worcester in order to then return to New Street via the Midland route however our plans were modified after a twenty-five-minute late arrival at Droitwich. I have to report that there absolutely no information provided to passengers who just sat and put up with it. The guard did not emerge from the rear cab of the train and made no announcements over the pa system. The travelling public can accept delays if they are kept informed with an adequate explanation but with no updates, like us, they just seethe and get resentful; not a great way to encourage passengers back on to the railways! There was almost a repeat on arrival at Droitwich with the display screens being inaccurate in their information and scrolling far too quickly to be able to make sense of. The member of staff on duty also made no attempt to let the many confused and increasingly bewildered passenger know what to do for the best; much to improve on here West Midlands Railway!
