The leading power car in its superb InterCity Swallow livery wears a headboard proclaiming 'LAST HST FROM LONDON' will go into preservation as part of the national collection with the stock, still wearing its Virgin East Coast/LNER paint scheme probably going for scrap sooner than later. I would not normally bother with a photograph in such awful lighting but the enormity of the event meant that it just had to be done!
