Midland Main Line finally came out of use on 05.12.87 with the closure of the boxes within the fabled 'Leicester gap'. No doubt the telegraph poles were felled pretty soon afterwards and was common practice, then and now for that matter, unwanted infrastructure is just left by the side of the tracks for nature to take over. Over thirty years later the remnants of the destruction still lie by the side of the line here at Wymington in the form of telegraph pole bearers.
